A note and more…

Hello! First of all, thank you for being here. I’m excited to be working on something for us, and I’ll tell you a bit more about it!

I’ve included prompts and other ideas after this note, so feel free to skip ahead. ⬇️

I’m coming to you raw, with a vision in my heart. I’m working to create a coffee table book called For the Girls. It’s meant to be a collection of stories, quotes, poetry, photos, journal entries, little doodles—anything that reflects the experience of being a woman.

I picture it as a collage of girlhood and womanhood in all their messy glory. It's quotes we scribbled in notebooks, warnings passed down like folklore, photos of us at our softest and wildest, poems we weren’t sure anyone would understand, and confessions we’ve carried for years.

(Please tell me I’m not the only one who has millions of thoughts and ideas and sentiments tucked away into every corner of my life!)

This isn’t about perfection—it’s about presence. It’s about real women saying:

Here. This happened. This mattered.

The idea came from a mix of inspiration and frustration. After finishing Julia Fox’s memoir, Down the Drain, I felt so cracked open I spent the next 8+ hours in planning mode. There’s something about the way she writes—as if she’s not trying to be understood, just witnessed. That kind of honesty is its own power. It reminded me how much we need each other. How badly we crave spaces to say the quiet things, the funny things, the hard and sacred things.

I want to build something that doesn’t follow any rules. Something handmade, heart-led, collaborative.

I’m feeling how strong the pull is right now for women to share what we’ve lived and what we’ve learned—about our hearts, our bodies, our friendships, our intuitions, our souls. I want this book to feel like something you’d gift a loved one, or pick up when you need to feel seen.

So here’s my ask:
Will you contribute something?

It doesn’t have to be long or polished. It can be silly, serious, weird, dreamy, vulnerable, practical, angry, hopeful—whatever feels real to you. You could pull something from your journal, your Notes app, or a dream you had last week. There are no rules other than being honest and authentically you.

I’m asking you to consider getting really raw, really real, and really vulnerable. You can submit as many things as you’d like. You can remain anonymous - even to me!

Thank you for even considering. I’m so excited to start building this, and it would mean the world to include your voice. 🫶

With love and gratitude for girlhood,
Jessye

Here are some prompts to get you thinking:

Before you start, take a moment to ground yourself. Place one hand over your chest and one hand on your belly. Take three deep breath, inhaling for 5 and exhaling for 5. Take a moment to notice yourself. Thank yourself. You are beautiful, strong, and wise. I hope you remember that every day!

  • What would you tell your 13-year-old self? How about 21? 30? 45? 60? Choose any age that resonates with you and write down what you’d say, no filter.

  • Think about the chapters of your life so far. Which one was your favorite? Least favorite? In each of these, what did you learn about life, love, yourself, or others that you’d like to share with the world?

  • What moment made you feel most alive?

  • What’s your favorite photo of all time?

  • Describe girlhood in one sentence.

  • What warning would you give to your younger self?

  • Doodle something that captures the energy of how you’re feeling today.

  • What’s something you never said out loud?

  • Why are you grateful to be a woman?

  • What rules do you live by?

  • What’s one quote or line that changed the way you think about something?

  • What’s the kindest thing someone has ever done for you? The cruelest?

  • What’s the thing you’ve scribbled or doodled most throughout your life?

  • What’s a recurring dream you’ve had?

  • What’s a metaphor for your greatest loss?

I’m open to submissions in any of these forms:

  • Quotes from real women

  • Short personal stories

  • Poetry

  • Journal-style confessions

  • Handwritten notes or letters

  • Doodles and sketches

  • Photographs

And here are a few of the themes I’m playing with:

  • Becoming (youth, play, confusion, freedom)

  • Unraveling (grief, heartbreak, chaos)

  • Remembering (family, lineage, body memories, dreams)

  • Reclaiming (sex, art, rage, softness, self)

  • Giving (motherhood, friendship, mentorship, community)

Notes for how to submit:

  • If you’re submitting something handwritten, take a clear photo of it and upload the photo

  • If you’re submitting something text-based, you can type it up and I’ll take creative freedoms with formatting so that it fits the style of the book

  • Share an artistic photo, a photo of a photo, or whatever type of image is speaking to you

  • Take a clear photo of a doodle, journal page, etc.
